A Call to Men
A Call to Men works to transform society by promoting healthy, respectful manhood and providing training and educational resources for companies, government agencies, schools, and community groups. At the core of its education and programming is a signature analysis of the collective socialization of manhood, known as the Man Box, along with a community organizing model designed to promote healthy manhood. Their work is guided by seven core principles, including centering marginalized voices and addressing intersectional oppression. Its approach aligns with the social ecological model advocated by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and actively supports the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (Goal 5: Gender Equality). A Call To Men extends an invitation to men rather than an indictment of manhood. It emphasizes that men’s and boys’ ideas about manhood, women, and girls have been shaped by their collective socialization. Cultural and media messages often perpetuate the notion that women are objects, property, or less valuable than men. They seek to raise the consciousness of men and boys about their socialization, encouraging them to critically examine how they may be reinforcing or perpetuating harmful beliefs. It empowers them to challenge these beliefs in themselves and others. By addressing the root causes of issues such as domestic violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment, and workplace discrimination, A Call to Men actively works to pave the way for gender equity.
